Boo!
This week I am sharing a slightly racier outfit to my usual ones but I hope you guys like it! My mum actually gave me the skirt, but I have never had a chance to wear it. So, given that I was scratching my head over what to wear for a friend's party I thought why not try out this skirt.
Apart from not really having an occasion to wear this skirt, another reason for never wearing it was because I just didn't know how to style it. Also, for some reason, I thought the tulle material reminded me of witches haha. Very silly I know, so I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to go out of my comfort zone, and try to think of the positives in order to have the inspiration to put together an outfit.
Thinking of the positives, I really like how the skirt isn't as full as normal tulle skirts, as then there's less material to deal with and also you can see the mini skirt underneath. If this were a sold coloured skirt, I think it would probably drown my petite frame, but together with the uneven hem and minimal tulle layering it doesn't have that effect.
It is a well known styling tip that wearing things high on your waist elongates your legs, and as a petite, a tip like that is just what I need. Luckily the waist band on the skirt was small enough to stay on my waist but had enough elastic to not suffocate me :p By pairing it with a simple white caged bralette I look 10000ft taller. Okay, that's a major exaggeration but I did feel so much taller. Also, by placing the skirt on the narrowest part of my midriff it looks like I have abs haha. I know the bralette isn't the most creative option, but because there was so much going on with the skirt, I thought it was best to keep the top bit simple :)
Despite it being said that petites shouldn't wear ankle strap heels, I just can't stay away from them! They just look so gorgeous, but also helps keep my feet in my shoes :p Even though I bought these from Matalan about four years ago I still adore them. Like most of my heels I just wish I had more excuses to wear them hehe.
I paired this outfit with my trusty black clutch, although I think a silver sparkly one would look even better. I need to get myself one of those :p
The one thing I regret about this outfit is actually the bralette. In the sense that I wish I hadn't purchased it. It's from Brandy Melville and cost £15...I know I know ridiculous right? I know it's not extortionate but as an avid bargain hunter I feel cheated especially as I found a cheaper one on Amazon for £6...Moral of the story is never make an impulsive purchase:p

I hope you guys enjoyed this little outfit inspiration. I'm not sure whether I'll ever get over my 'fear' of this skirt reminding me of witches (haha) but at least I gave this a go! How would you style a black tulle skirt? I would love to hear your thoughts :)
Enjoy your long weekend! Take care and speak soon.
That looks fantastic on you. I would have had no idea what to wear with that skirt!
ReplyDeleteLOVE those shoes, the whole outfit is gorgeous!

This tulle skirt is so pretty and I love in it black! Your styling suggestion is great, my go-to is a tight cardigan, but this white crop is a great alternative to that! :)

Wow that skirt is sooo beautiful, I want one in my life. Don't think I could pull it off as well as you though :) xx
ReplyDeleteI agree, as a petite it is reallly hard for us to wear long skirts. This uneven hem really works!

Aahhh, that skirt! It's beautiful! And it's in black too, my favorite color when it comes to clothes!
ReplyDeleteSo stylish! I cannot pull off a bralet. I always associate tulle with tutus. Ballerinas are nicer than witches. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt!! Whao!! I wouldn't dare to wear that top! You look amazing! =)
ReplyDeletesaw these pictures first in your insta! couldn't resit checking here for more detail! loved the heels most :)

the skirt is cute! i wouldnt know how to dress it up! ive only started wearing midi skirts so its a slow transition for me lol
ReplyDeleteblack and white combination is never goes wrong.
ReplyDeletei love your long skirt. its so cute.
You, my dear.. have an amazing sense of style! i think its because of the cutting that it reminds you of witches! if it were a bit more puffy I'd think of ballerinas maybe :p
ReplyDeleteGIG love,

Oh you look gorgeous! I am petite too, but that skirt looks so tough to carry off - you did it though!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, that means so much! I just need to find a good petite maxi skirt now haha x
ReplyDeletethat's really kind of you to say, thank you gillian! I think you're right. If it was pink that will definitely be more ballerina like as well haha x
ReplyDeleteSo true, it's a timeless and such an easy combination. I'm glad you liked it! x
ReplyDeleteMidi skirts are so pretty but I find so difficult to wear for us petites, but at least something so simple can help :) x
ReplyDeleteHehe thank you tamanna! I think the heels are probably my favourite part of this outfit too! x
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I wouldn't dare wear the top with shorts/short skirt, but I think this long skirt helps balance things out x
ReplyDeleteBallerinas are definitely nicer haha, thank you for your lovely comment Kat! x
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it Ari! I've always been very hesitant about whether I like the skirt, but you guys are definitely changing my mind on it hehe x
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I wasn't sure how to pair it so thought something simple would be quite effective x
ReplyDeleteThank you emma! Simplicity goes a long long way hehe x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! They are really comfy as well haha x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jessica, I'm glad you liked it! You have an amazing heel collection as well x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, i'm glad you liked the post :) x
ReplyDeleteThank you, it really means a lot to know that you guys like it, especially when it was my first time trying this kind of pairing! x
ReplyDeleteThank you! Tulle definitely is a hate or love thing, although maybe a coloured tulle may be more pleasing to the eye haha x
ReplyDeleteThank you Olivia! I'm sure you'd love amazing in it:) x
ReplyDeleteI know right, I wish it was easier! I think the trick is to get something with an uneven hem:) x
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful outfit! You look incredible!
ReplyDeleteReally? Petites shouldn't wear ankle strap shoes? Why ever not?
ReplyDeleteI wear them all the time and I'm 5 foot! haha
I love this skirt though and your outfit looks really good. Wish I had the nerve to pull off a midi/maxi skirt but I definitely don't haha always worried I'll end up so stumpy
x
That is so pretty! Im a total sucker for a tulle skirt! I made my final collection at fashion college all with tulle skirts! xo
ReplyDeletehttp://rachelnicole.co.uk/
I love that skirt! Doesn't look ‘witchy’ to me. More like a ‘fairy’ style. You’ve styled it really well, I wouldn't change a thing.
ReplyDeleteNever thought of it as a fairy, but I love the idea! Thank you so much for your lovely comment x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much rachel, it really means a lot! ooh did you really? That sounds amazing x
ReplyDeleteI think ankle straps 'cuts' our legs so would make them appear shorter, but I'm with you, ankle strap shoes are the best! I think if the hem was not uneven it would look quite silly on me, but I think the uneven hem gives an illusion that I'm not as small as I am :p x
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, it really means a lot! x
ReplyDeleteI love the way you styled it! I don't even think you look petite in this outfit. And trust me, I know the struggles of being a petite. I'm only an inch below 5 feet!
ReplyDeleteThe skirt is pretty ! http://www.stylnoxe.com

I really loke the way that you have put this outfit together. As the commenter below said, I wouldn't say this is specifically a 'petite' outfit, but something that everyone could wear. It looks really great on you!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit there - Don't worry about the top costing you £15 - at least you got some use out of it!
ReplyDeleteThat's so true! Imgaine not getting any wear out of it at all...that would definitely be £15 down the drain haha, thank you for the comment :) x
ReplyDeleteThank you Jemma! This definitely is not just a petite outfit, and anyone can rock it:) I just think that it kind of gives the illusion of a petite frame being taller, any kind of illusion is great for us hehe x
ReplyDeleteThat's very true, thank you so much! I've seen a couple of youtube videos on people making them themselves, so that would be quite an interesting project! x
ReplyDeleteThank you Celia, and for my blog name! I'm still debating whether to buy the domain as I'm still not 100% sure about the name but it's always fab to hear feedback:D x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! x
ReplyDeleteThank you! x
ReplyDeleteAww thank you very much :) x
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you find it pretty! It's so funny how everyone on here thinks it's pretty, when my first reaction was witches :p x
ReplyDeleteahh another petite, hello! Anything to make us look taller right? Definitely going to be wearing more high waisted things now haha x
