Galvin La Chapelle Review | lifeasapetite

Boo!

This week I'm sharing another restaurant review, and this time it's another Michelin Starred one: La Chapelle. We managed to book ourselves onto Bookatable's 3 courses & a glass of brut for £29 deal. The offer is available until 31 July so if any of you fancy trying a Michelin Starred place for a reasonable price I would definitely check out these offers.

It must seem as though we are always going through bookatable, but that's because they do such amazing offers, which allows us to try so many different restaurants without breaking the bank. Of course these kind of night outs are only an occasional thing as doing this every night would probably defeat the purpose of going for offers. Anyway, enough of that and onto the review!

As always, the first thing I look out for is the decor, and my goodness is this place gorgeous! I wish I had the chance to take a decent picture of the whole place, because it was so lovely! I'm not too sure what the building was before, but it is a Grade II listed building so it has the high ceilings, medieval-styled chandeliers and just beautiful architecture.

These are the type of wine glasses I would love to have in my cupboard!

These are probably the biggest olives I've ever had! Although they weren't the best ones I've tasted, they
looked good.

Foie Gras Royale, Port Wine Jelly, Date Puree & Lemon Croutons
Foie Gras Royale, Port Wine Jelly, Date Puree & Lemon Croutons

You know a restaurant is incredible if it has been awarded a Michelin star, but it is even more so when it is awarded just one year after opening! So it was safe to say that expectations were pretty high. I ordered the Foie Gras to start as although I have had pate before, I wanted to try this, plus I liked the sound of the lemon croutons, and let me just say those croutons were amazing. As the foie gras was savoury, the mixture of flavour between the sweet and the savoury was interesting one. I did enjoy the starter but I thought there was too much of it. However, that might be because I had had quite a lot of bread before the starter arrived. Although can I just mention that La Chapelle do the best bread!

For the main course, I ordered the pork belly and J ordered the trout. The trout tasted delicious but J said he had thought that there would be more carbohydrates to complement the trout. As for the pork belly, you would think that it sounded like a strange mix but from my (limited) experience of Michelin starred restaurants, they take the most unlikely things and make them go together so well. I used to really not like lentils but having had this I've been having a lot more at home. The pork belly was cooked to perfection, and surprisingly didn't have that much fat.

Finally dessert. The fusion of flavours were incredible! The only con I have for this dessert is that there wasn't enough pistachio cake, but that's only because it was so delicious. I was a bit dubious about the purple pear as I had never had it before, but it tasted so good as well.

I just wanted to share this last picture with you all because I thought it was such a beautiful tea light cover. It's such a lovely thing to have on your table as the detailing looks so amazing! If anyone knows where you can find these, do let me know:p

Overall I really enjoyed this dining experience. The service was fantastic, as they were very attentive and the food came at a perfect pace. This is definitely somewhere different to go to, and is a lovely treat to yourself whilst at the same time enjoying some incredible flavours.

  9. I was very surprised myself, but then was also surprised at how much starter we did get. Usually these kind of restaurants give quite small portions but this definitely was quite filling. But then again that might be the bread talking haha x

  12. Oh I'm with you on appreciating the decor of this place - it looks incredible! The pork belly looks very good and the candle covering shown in the final photo is so ornate, they sell many of those in that style at the Koln (Germany) Christmas markets! :)
